New Product Development

Bring New Products from Idea to Production, with Control.

Our NPD solution structures how a product moves from concept to commercial production: one workflow for ideas, specifications, reviews, trials and approvals, with a defined handover to the plant that has to make it.

The challenge

The product is new. The way it is developed should not be improvised.

Product development is where the most functions meet with the least shared structure. R&D holds the formulation, quality holds the specification, procurement is finding a supplier, and production learns about the launch when the first order arrives.

In between, decisions are made in meetings and confirmed by email. Trial results sit in personal folders. The approved version of a specification is whichever attachment was sent last. When the product reaches the plant, the recipe, the inspection criteria and the material list rarely agree with each other.

  • Development by email threadReviews, comments and sign-offs scattered across inboxes.
Structured stage-gate workflowEach stage with its deliverables, reviewers and decision.
  • Versions in attachmentsNobody is certain which specification is current.
Controlled specificationsOne approved version, with history and change control.
  • Launch surprises on the floorProduction and quality receive the product last.
Defined handover to productionApproved definitions reach MES, QMS and planning together.

The solution

One governed lifecycle from idea to commercial production

Our NPD solution gives every product initiative the same path. Each stage has defined inputs, owners, reviews and an explicit gate decision, so a product cannot move forward without the information the next stage depends on.

Stages, deliverables and approvers are configured to how your organization develops products, whether that is a formal stage-gate model or a lighter review process for line extensions and packaging changes.

  1. IdeaIdeas captured with rationale, market context and an initial screening decision.
  2. RequirementsTarget specifications, regulatory constraints, cost and capacity assumptions defined.
  3. DevelopmentFormulation, design and process definition developed with documents held against the product.
  4. ReviewCross-functional review of feasibility, quality, sourcing and manufacturability.
  5. ApprovalGate decision recorded with approvers, conditions and a controlled specification version.
  6. TrialsPilot and plant trials planned, executed and evaluated against the specification.
  7. ValidationTrial results, quality results and process capability confirmed before release.
  8. CommercializationApproved recipes, routings, specifications and materials handed over to production, quality and planning.

Capabilities

NPD capability areas

Capability areas below describe the scope of our NPD engagement.

Idea management

Capture, categorize and screen product ideas with the rationale and decision on record, so good ideas are not lost and weak ones are closed early.

Product development workflows

Configurable workflows that move each initiative through defined stages with owners, tasks and due dates.

Stage-gate processes

Gate criteria, deliverables and decision records per stage, so progression is a governed decision rather than a calendar event.

Specifications

Product, material, packaging and process specifications maintained as controlled, versioned records against the product.

Document management

Development documents, test reports, artwork and supplier declarations attached to the product and stage with version history.

Approval workflows

Gate approvals, specification approvals and release decisions routed to defined approvers with an audit trail.

Cross-functional collaboration

R&D, quality, production, procurement and commercial teams work on the same product record with role-based access.

Trial management

Plan pilot and plant trials, record parameters and results, and evaluate outcomes against the target specification.

Change management

Changes to an approved product definition raised, assessed, approved and communicated through a controlled process.

Product information and handover

Approved recipes, routings, bills of materials and specifications released to production, quality and planning as one package.

Portfolio and status visibility

Every active initiative, its stage, owner and open actions consolidated for development leadership.

Formulation and cost evaluation

Formulation alternatives compared on composition, target attributes and indicative cost during development.

Native AI connector

Exposes the NPD data you choose to any AI platform, so it can process, detect, predict and optimize on it under the same access rules as the application.

Integration

Development ends where production, quality and planning begin

The value of a controlled product definition is realized when the plant executes it, quality inspects against it and planning sources for it. Our NPD solution is designed to hand its outputs directly to those processes.

  • MES: approved recipes, routings and instructions become what production executes. Explore MES
  • QMS: specifications developed and approved in NPD are released into the QMS specification master, which distributes limits to the shop floor and the lab. Explore QMS
  • Supply Chain: new materials, packaging and suppliers set up ahead of launch, with launch quantities visible to planning. Explore Supply Chain
  • ERP and PLM systems: item masters, bills of materials and product data exchanged with enterprise systems.

  3. MESRecipes and routings executed on the line

Who benefits, and how

Designed for the teams that bring products to market

NPD replaces coordination effort with structure. The outcomes below follow from every function working on the same product record through the same governed stages.

Predictable development cycles

R&D and product development heads

Every initiative, its stage and its blockers in one consolidated view.

One version of the truth

Product developers and technologists

Specifications, trials and documents held against the product, with clear next steps.

Governed change

Quality and regulatory teams

Involved at review, with approved specifications released straight into the QMS specification master.

Earlier involvement of the plant

Operations and supply chain

Early visibility of what is coming, and a complete definition when it arrives.

Outcomes describe the intended effect of digitizing product development processes. Quantified results are specific to each implementation and are not claimed here.
